Parker Technology also accepts macrophotographic assignments. The kit used for macro work includes the Canon 40D DSLR, the absolutely superb Canon 100mm macro lens – unbelievable sharpness and image quality, and the Canon Macro ring lite MR-14EX. This particular combination produces macrophotographs of stunning quality with sharp features even at large f-numbers. On first using this lens at full macro to photograph a butterfly wing I was amazed at the resulting image which looked as if it had been taken through a low-power high-quality optical microscope.
Below are a few examples of macro work carried out using the above kit:
Bumblee in a Brockenhurst garden.
Some more bees captured in the garden:
And the final bee if you can see him, is a little character completely covered in the pollen from a Sunflower seed head:
An example of creating a large high resolution macrophotograph by assembling a mosaic of 16 images is shown here with the Owl butterfly:
Another macromosaic was created to capture this beautiful orchid at very high resolution:
One of the very first single-frame full macro photographs taken was this image of part of a Morpho Rhetenor butterfly wing. The metallic blue colouration is due to structure – not pigment – and was the basis of a Biomimetic Patent taken out (and granted) by Mesophotonics Limited. Note that in the image you can see detail down to the level of individual wing scales – phenomenal!
And finally, a single frame macrophotograph of a very unusual pair of shells called precious wentletraps:
